Renewable Energy Policies to achieve COP targets

Country-wise list of Renewable Energy Policies introduced to promote renewable energy growth and achieve COP (Conference of Parties) goals and targets: 1. United States Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) (2022): Provides tax credits for solar, wind, EVs, and battery manufacturing. Production Tax Credit (PTC) : Supports wind energy by offering tax benefits for production. Investment Tax Credit (ITC) : Encourages solar and wind energy deployment through capital subsidies. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) : Mandates blending biofuels into transportation fuels to reduce GHG emissions. State Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) : Many states require a certain percentage of electricity to come from renewable sources. 2. European Union European Green Deal : Aims for climate neutrality by 2050, with renewable energy as a key component. Fit for 55 Package : Targets a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030 with higher renewable energy quotas. Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) : Sets binding targets for r...

Nuclear Energy Structure of India

Agencies handling Nuclear in India are as follows: 1. Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) The DAE is the umbrella that oversees all nuclear technology matters in India.  This includes research and development organisations, public sector undertakings, industrial facilities, grant-in-aid organisations and service organisations (see below), as well as nuclear power plants. The DAE was set up in the year 1954 under the direct charge of the Prime Minister. 2. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) The Atomic Energy Commission, or AEC, was established in 1958. It is responsible for implementing government policy in all matters concerning atomic energy, as well as creating policy and preparing annual budgets for the DAE.  The AEC has been awarded the full powers of the Government of India to carry out the work of the DAE, with the single exception of its budget, which must be approved by Parliament.  Once its budget is passed, the AEC is not required to consul...

Shaping Geopolitics through Renewable Energy

Image
Renewable energy is generation and rapid increase in installation capacities across the world. Harvesting renewable energies does not deplete the resources or create environmental impacts at a minimal level. In fact, in many instances, the only environmental cost is that of constructing the infrastructure needed to harvest, store, and transmit the resultant energy. As the effects of anthropologic climate change i.e., climate change caused by human activity start to manifest, renewables are at the forefront of most geopolitical discourse. There is no escaping the simple fact that our civilization requires electricity to function but self-sustainability is at most needed in regular activities. Several countries around the world are dependent upon importing energy from other nations in order to meet their requirements.  International relations are more finely tuned than ever to the energy and power markets. The unstoppable march of climate change is bringing with it a growing awarenes...
