What is Cymatics ?

Cymatics is the study of visible sound and vibration, often demonstrated by creating visual patterns from sound frequencies on various mediums like water, sand, or metal plates. The term "cymatics" comes from the Greek word "kyma," meaning "wave," and it was popularized by Swiss scientist Hans Jenny in the 1960s. He experimented with vibrating surfaces and documented the formation of intricate, symmetrical patterns produced by different sound frequencies. In cymatics experiments, materials like sand or liquid are placed on a vibrating plate connected to a frequency generator. As sound frequencies change, the particles or liquids rearrange themselves into geometric patterns, reflecting the sound's wavelength and frequency. Lower frequencies produce simpler patterns, while higher frequencies generate more complex shapes. This phenomenon illustrates how sound waves influence matter, providing insight into resonance, frequency, and the structure of vibrati...
